Pittsburg Press Newspaper

Original Newspaper from The Pittsburg Press

Like a time capsule, this original newspaper stepped forward in time from it’s hiding place in the Coraopolis Station. Based on the date, it is possible that this newspaper was left behind during the construction of the porte cochere. You’ll note the odd spelling of Pittsburgh’s name. From 1891-1911 the city experienced a renaming by the newly-established United States Board of Geographic Names which was ultimately repealed. According to Wikipedia, “Notwithstanding the Board's reversal, the 'h'-less spelling variant remained in use for years. Some local daily newspapers carried it in their titles until the early 1920s.”

The Pittsburg Press dated Tuesday, April 21, 1914
